This young man is already at the top of his game at only 21 years old. He currently plays his football in the German Bundesliga for VfL Wolfsburg and has represented his country, France, at a youth level.
I first witnessed this man last season in the Bundesliga and was surprised to see what a good centre back Lacroix was. He only arrived in the Bundesliga last season but has already made a big impact for his club. Wolfsburg last season only conceded 37 goals in the Bundesliga, which was the second lowest just behind RB Leipzig. He also helped them reach 4th position which was quite an achievement, earning Wolfsburg the chance to play in the UEFA Champions League this season. If we compare that to the season before, 2019-2020, they finished 7th and conceded 47 goals. It is clear to see the impact that Lacroix has made on the team, especially defensively.
What makes this young Frenchman so good already? Well he is very fast, which is important in this new era of football, in which pace is a key component to both attacking and defending. Also, he is very well built and is a strong man who is especially good in the air, coming in at 6ft 2. There is no centre back that I can even compare him with, he makes the game look very easy, thanks to his blistering pace. For his sake, I am glad that he is not all about his acceleration but also is a very competent defender who is good on the ball and has very good defensive instincts. I am sure that in the next few seasons we will see Maxence Lacroix get a big transfer to another club, potentially Bayern Munich!
