It is not rare to have good footballing genes, or have their father or uncle play when they were younger. A few examples of these are; Timothy and Geroge Weah, Ianis and Gheorghe Hagi and Kasper and Peter Schmeichel. However even for footballing standards it is very rare to have 2 brothers who are only 1 year apart who play at the same level.
Lukas is the elder brother, 22 years old, but still has yet to gain a lot of footballing experience at the top level. He is a product of the Manchester City youth system but only made a handful of appearances for the club. The majority of his career has been spent on loan, at clubs like Preston North End and Anderlecht. However, it was his time at Anderlecht that gave his name some recognition, scoring 18 goals in the season while he was there, quite the record. He recently got his move to Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga and scored the winning goal on his debut this season. Having watched him play a handful of times, he is a very energetic and mobile striker. He recently scored in the UEFA Champions league also, while playing against RB Salzburg. The Bundesliga has a record of creating great young talent and especially in the forward areas so I am certain this young man will also be one to watch for the future.
On the contrary, the younger brother, Felix, only 21 year old, has only just started his football career. Similar to his brother he was a Manchester City Academy player, but has had no concrete experience playing football. He managed only 2 appearances for Manchester City and he has never been on loan at any other club. He also recently was signed for Wolfsburg, a few weeks after his older brother signed. He is a tall man who plays as a central midfielder, playing behind his brother, but has yet to make a Bundesliga appearance. He recently came on as a sub during the defeat to RB Salzburg in the Champions League, but it is hard to judge a player who has barely played any football. However it is clear he must have a lot of natural talent if Wolfsburg signed him.
The Nmecha brothers both decided to play for Germany as their National team, although both of them are English based. No matter which country they choose to play for, I honestly believe this will not be the last we hear of the Nmecha brothers!
