Definitely a name not known by many, Álvarez is an attacking midfielder who currently plays for LA Galaxy, which is David Beckham’s former team. He has already racked up over 50 appearances for the senior team in all competitions even though he has only become professional for a few years. He is known for his attacking and enthusiastic play as a central attacking midfielder but also is capable of playing as a winger or even as the centre forward. Having watched videos of him play it is clear that his versatility is optimised in the LA Galaxy team which is a key skill to have as a footballer.
At the moment he is representing the Mexican national team but at a younger age he played for the United States team. This is because he was born and raised in the United States but both his parents are in fact Mexican. He was interviewed recently saying that he might even change back to the United States one day, if that option is still open. It must be great having the option to play for 2 countries that mean so much to him. Although he has not been a superstar yet in his early career, I believe that this will not be the last time that Álvarez’s name will be mentioned as he has all the skills and attitudes to do well in football, wherever he plays.
